To borrow books from the library or to order them from the closed stacks, a library card is required. Without a library card you can only use books in the reference sections or open shelves.
Library cards are issued to adults with residence in Austria (persons aged 15-17 require a waiver [PDF]waiver signed by a parent).
To get your card, please bring your Austrian student ID (or your passport) and your proof of residence (Meldezettel) and go to the library card counter ("Ausweise") in the lending department of the main library or the information counter in any other sublibrary.
The library card is free of charge for students and staff of Austrian educational institutions. Other persons must pay an annual fee of €15. Foreign guest researchers and lecturers do not need a library card to order books to the main reading room.
If your library card is stolen or lost, please contact the information counter in the main library immediately (Phone +43-1-4277-15120).
Further details can be found in the current library regulations [PDF, in German].
