Reading rooms, reference desk and reference library are located in the foyer and can be consulted by everyone wishing to use the library.
The large reading room is closed for construction works from July to early September 2017.
The large reading room seats 350 readers and contains a selection of frequently used encyclopedias, dictionaries, bibliographies, textbooks, critical editions and manuals. These books cannot be borrowed.
The reference library contains the older catalogues of the main library. Students of Vienna University can also access the Internet here. There is also a large selection of encyclopedias, bibliographies and biographical dictionaries. The first room offers 18 computers for use by staff and students of Vienna University, a coin-operated copying machine, a u:print printer and a book scanner. Rooms 2 and 3 provide seating for 46 persons.
This reading room is for the consultation of books published before 1917, books marked "A-Magazin", rare items marked "E.S." or "ES-Magazin", and large items with shelfmarks III, IV, V and VI. The books must be ordered with u:search. The use of the cloakroom is mandatory. Jackets, coats and any bags (including laptop covers) are strictly forbidden.
This fully accessible reading room in the lower ground floor of the main university building seats 72 persons and is for reading any books that you bring to the library. Power sockets for your laptop computers are provided on every desk.
The entire reading room area offers free WiFi for staff and students of Vienna University with a valid u:account. Please make sure that your device is configured to connect via DHCP.
