About INIS

    [Diese Seite auf deutsch]

INIS (International Nuclear Information System) is a repository operated by the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) within the family of United Nations organizations. It hosts one of the world’s largest collections of published information on the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology and related subjects. INIS is free of charge and accessible worldwide via the internet or other media.

The INIS Austria Team 130 Countries and 24 international organisations are members of INIS. Each member runs its own INIS Centre, which is responsible for collecting, analyzing and recording relevant literature that has been published in the member’s region. As a special resource INIS offers a set of non-conventional “grey” literature (i.e. documents that are not published by traditional publishing houses).

INIS operates on cooperative principles with efficient communication structures between its members, which makes INIS a worldwide competence center on the peaceful use of nuclear science.

INIS continually evolves and adjusts to changes in economics, political and technological information requirements, the needs of its users and new information management practices.

INIS Austria is funded by the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy and operated by the Austrian Central Library for Physics and Chemistry Library, which is part of the University of Vienna.
