Due to the Covid-19 measures, the building is currently closed. To pick up an ordered book or to bring back a borrowed book, please contact us by phone during library opening hours so that we can meet you at the front door to hand over or pick up the books there.
The library holdings are partly housed in the reading room and partly in stacks (book storage). Much of the literature is home-loanable. To do this, you need a u:card (when enrolling, please bring your student ID or, for external users, an official photo ID and registration form). The library usage regulations of the University of Vienna apply.
The holdings displayed in the reading room / open access area can be used on site without pre-ordering. In addition, books can be borrowed from the reading room area overnight, over the weekend or over public holidays (a special rule applies during the holidays). The return must then be made on the next opening day by 12 noon at the latest. Journal volumes, encyclopedias and literature with a publication date up to and including 1920 can only be used in the reading room.
The majority of the inventory is in the stacks. These holdings must be ordered using the u:search online tool. Books ordered online in the morning can be picked up in the afternoon, books ordered in the afternoon can be picked up on the following opening day from 9 a.m. (library card required). The loan period is 28 days; an extension is possible as long as no other user has reserved the work. Not all holdings are currently recorded online. If the desired book cannot be found in u:search - this applies in particular to literature with a publication date up to around 1980 - it is advisable to consult the card catalog.
To search for journals, please use u:search. The last ten volumes of the most important journals are accessible in the journal reading room in open access. The other journal volumes are located in the magazine and must be ordered online via u:search. Journals are held by the reference library and cannot be borrowed outside the home.
There is a u:print copier in the library which you can use the payment function of your u:card to print out. For more detailed information, please refer to the website of the Central Informatics Service on u:print
There is a book scanner in the library that can be used free of charge. To save the documents you have to bring a USB stick with you.
Since the 2015 winter semester, the Sports Science Departmental Library has been offering a group work room for its users. It can accommodate up to eight people. The room is equipped with a PC that is provided by the central IT service and is u:print capable. There are enough power sockets and a white board.
This is how the room can be booked within the opening times:
The same terms of use apply as in the library: cloakroom requirement; no food; Learning materials and your own notebooks are allowed; Drinking from sealable water bottles is permitted. The room must be left in the same condition as it was found.
