In der Oxidation von Olefinen wurden geeignete Bedingungen vermutet, um eine intermolekulare Addition des gebildeten nukleophilen Alkylradikals an ein durch ein Proton aktiviertes Carbonyl zu realisieren. Als geeigneter Photokatalysator wurde Mesitylacridinium identifiziert. Zahlreiche 1,3-Dialkoxyprodukte konnten durch Kupplung von Aldehyden mit Alkenen erzeugt werden.
