You need a library card to borrow books. Most Books may be borrowed for 7 days and you can renew all loans for a period of up to 1 year, provided that nobody else has reserved the relevant item.
Please request books that are kept in the closed stacks. Our staff members have to collect them from the stacks for you and you will get a notification e-mail as soon as they are ready for you.
We have a small textbook collection at our Library. You can borrow books kept in this collection (shelf mark Ü-) for 28 days and may also renew this loans for a period of up to 1 year, provided that nobody else has reserved the relevant item.
You can reserve books that are currently borrowed (specified as: "On loan until DD.MM.YYYY” under “status”). You will receive a notification e-mail as soon as the book has been returned to the special library and is ready to collect. We keep books you reserved ready to collect for 5 working days.
You may not borrow reference works, dictionaries, periodicals, academic theses, maps, atlases and old books. Please see the relevant details on u:search.
If you fail to return books by the due date, your library account will be blocked and you cannot borrow any further books from the Vienna University Library until you have returned the books. In addition, the following reminder fees apply (as of 1st April 2023):
