Lending Services

General information

Patrons can borrow loanable books for a minimum of 7 days. Patrons can place holds on loans. As long as there are no holds or overdue fees, items may be renewed. Maximum loan period for any one item: 12 months.

All loanable library items can be ordered via u:search. The books are retrieved once a day before the library opens. We recommend placing orders the day before you wish to collect them at the latest. You will be notified by e-mail and can then collect the items from the library counter. If a book is on loan you should place a request. You will be notified when the book is available for collection from the library.

However not all items in the library are loanable. Such items (some reference works, dictionaries with the shelfmark W, journals, theses or items in reserve collections, current school books and books older than 100 years) can be used in the library. Please direct any questions concerning the use of such works to bibliothek.anglistik@univie.ac.at

Please sign on to u:search to see whether a work is loanable or not.

If loanable open access works have not been reserved, you can take them off the library shelves yourselves and borrow them at the library counter until a quarter of an hour before the library closes.

Loans should be returned at the library counter during the desk hours. Outside the desk hours of the library, books belonging to the English and American Library and the Jewish Studies Library can be returned in the book return box in the library entrance area. The books will be checked in on the next open workday with the date of the last open day.
