Lending Services

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Due to security measures to contain the corona virus, all university buildings, and therefore all libraries, will remain closed until 14 April 2020.

Please use our extensive range of electronic resources.

You can borrow books that may be borrowed for 28 days. You need a library card to borrow books. You receive your library card at the library information desk once you have presented your student ID card (or an official photo ID card if you are not a student) and your residence registration form.

Please note: You cannot borrow books in Chinese, Japanese or Korean that are not recorded in the online catalogue straight away. We record the book in the catalogue as soon as possible. You receive a notification, as soon as the book is ready for you to collect.

Reserving

You can reserve books that are currently borrowed (specified as: "On loan until DD.MM.YYYY” under “Status”). You will receive a notification e-mail as soon as the book has been returned to the special library and is ready to collect. We keep books you reserved ready to collect for 5 working days.

Items that may not be borrowed

You may not borrow reference works, dictionaries, periodicals and old books. Please see the relevant details on u:search and in the online catalogue.

Research collection, project, reserve collection

Academic staff of the University of Vienna can borrow books for up to 1 year (with a project pass or a reserve collection pass) or even up to 2 years (with a research collection pass). The name of the person who has borrowed the book is specified in the online catalogue to allow other users to access the item. These items must be kept in the relevant subunit of the University of Vienna.
