The u:card for students also serves as a valid library card.
Employees of the University of Vienna who do not have a u:card and require a library card have to order a u:card and accept the library’s terms and conditions.
It is possible to retrospectively activate the u:card for employees as a library card by accepting the library’s terms and conditions under Status and Validity on u:space .
Students of the University of Vienna who do not have a u:card require a student ID card to get a library card. They get the library card at the library card counter at the lending service of the Main Library and at the special libraries.
All other persons have to complete an initial registration via this web form . For detailed information about the required documents, please see our overview.
The student library card is valid until graduation and the employee library card is valid until the termination of the employment.

If you have a u:card, you can disable your u:card yourself online. For further information, please read the FAQs about the u:card .
If you do not have a u:card, please contact us in person, via telephone or by e-mail (entlehnung.ub@univie.ac.at). Make sure that your library card is disabled as soon as possible. Otherwise, you can be held liable if someone else borrows books using your library card.
Students of the University of Vienna can change their address via u:space.
Employees of the University of Vienna have to notify their organisational unit about the change of address.
All other library users have to provide an official proof of residence to the library. You may also send a scanned version of the proof of residence via e-mail to entlehnung.ub@univie.ac.at.
Active university members may only use their university e-mail address. However, you can set up mail forwarding from the university e-mail address to another e-mail address.
All other persons can provide their new e-mail address at the card counter of their library or by sending an e-mail to entlehnung.ub@univie.ac.at.

If you have forgotten your password, please contact the ZID Helpdesk .
If your library card expired before 2017, we no longer have your details stored in the system. Please follow the instructions and complete the initial registration .
If your library card expired after January 2017 and you still have a UB account (ub00000x), please create a u:account before extending the library card and notify the library
If you are sure that your library card is still valid, but you have forgotten the UserID (the UB account) or the password to your UB account, please create a u:account and notify the library. UB accounts are only valid for a limited period and can no longer be extended.
If you have an expired u:account and still remember your password, you can reactivate your old u:account.
Please contact the Library if you are not sure whether your library card is still valid.
If you are a member of the University of Vienna, your library card is valid for as long as you are a member of the University.
Non-members of the University of Vienna: Contact the Library to extend your library card and submit the documents specified in the overview table. Depending on your user group, you may have to pay a fee.
u:card owners who do not study or work at the University of Vienna: Please validate your u:card after you have extended your right to borrow books at the University Library (Main Library or special libraries).
If you would like to withdraw from the University, you can get the relevant stamp at the card counter in the lending service area at the Main Library by providing your library card.
However, you can still use the library service for an annual fee after you have completed your studies.
