Study registration and preprints are increasingly important tools for making research more timely, transparent, and rigorous, but many researchers still have questions about how to use them in practice. What should you include in a study registration, and when is it most useful? How do preprints fit into the publication process, and what should researchers consider before sharing a manuscript publicly?
In this seminar, Katie Corker will introduce participants to the practical use ofstudy registration and preprints, drawing on the work of ASAPbio , a researcher-led nonprofit organization that promotes preprints and greater transparency in research communication. The session will explain how study registration can make research more transparent, and how preprints can be used to share research findings openly and early with a host of benefits for researchers.
Participants will also be introduced to key practical considerations, including what to include in a study registration, how to choose a preprint server, and how to think about versioning, journal policies, and communication with co-authors and readers. The seminar will provide a useful framework and resources for researchers who want to make their work more open, rigorous, and accessible, whether they are new to these practices or looking to strengthen how they use them.
