A Look at Open Research Europe and Nanopublications
Traditional scholarly journals are not the only way to make research outputs openly available. A growing range of platforms and approaches offer researchers different ways to publish and share their work. But what do these alternatives actually look like in practice, and when might researchers consider using them?
In this seminar, we will take a closer look at two very different options: Open Research Europe (ORE) and nanopublications. Representatives from ORE will introduce the free-to-use, peer-reviewed, open-access publishing platform, explain how its publishing and peer-review process works, and discuss who can use it and what can be published.
We will also discuss nanopublications, an approach for publishing small, structured, machine-readable pieces of information as linked open data. Dr. Mitja Zdouc (zdouclab.org) will introduce nanopublications and the new, freely available nanopublication service instance that was recently established on the Life Sciences Compute Cluster (LiSC). The presentation will explore what nanopublications look like, how they are complementary with conventional research papers, and how researchers can create and leverage nanopublications using the service.
