Peer review is a central part of scholarly publishing, but researchers are often asked to review manuscripts with little formal guidance on how to approach the task. In this one-hour seminar, the European Association of Science Editors (EASE) will provide guidance on how to be a good peer reviewer.
Drawing on a toolkit developed by the EASE Peer Review Committee, the session will cover key responsibilities of reviewers, including knowing when to accept or decline an invitation, respecting confidentiality, recognizing competing interests, and checking the journal’s guidance on peer review. Participants will also be introduced to EASE’s step-by-step approach to completing a peer review, from reading the manuscript critically to identifying and prioritizing comments and preparing a clear, constructive and respectful review report.
The seminar will provide participants with a practical framework and resources they can draw on when completing their own peer reviews, and will reflect on the EASE guidelines in using AI in peer review.
